Larry Berkman was elected to the MFISD Board of Trustees, Place 4, for his first 3 year term in May 2014.

He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees at Sam Houston State University.  He also played basketball for Sam Houston State.

Larry and his family moved to Marble Falls in 1982, and he served MFISD as Head Basketball Coach for 21 years.  He also served MFISD by starting many MFISD projects and programs that are still in operation today.  He started and directed the Safe and Drug Free Schools Program, entered into a joint project with Kiwanis to start “Little Dribblers” (now “Young Guns”), served on the original advisory board to start Young Life in Marble Falls, and initiated the first all night party to protect seniors after Graduation (now called “Project Graduation”)

After retiring from MFISD thirteen years ago, Larry opened a small business and served six years on the Highland Lakes/Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board.  Larry also served as a Youth Leader and Deacon at the First Baptist Church.

Larry has been married to his wife, Tammy, for 50 years. She coordinated Title I Reading at Colt Elementary and also served as Director of Food Service for MFISD.  They are blessed with four children, who all attended Marble Falls Schools.  “My children got a great education at MFISD.  My oldest daughter and local dentist, Dr. Lane Freeman, was Salutatorian of MFHS.  My son, John Berkman, who was named to the All Region Basketball Team and All State Academic Team at MFHS, is currently the MFHS Head Girls Basketball Coach and MFISD Girls Athletic Coordinator.   My daughter, Becca Lambert, graduated from MFHS in the top 10%, and daughter, Beth Ann, who participated in MFHS Basketball and Choir, graduated from Baylor University on the Dean’s List.

“I see it as a God given privilege to serve on the MFISD School Board, and I look forward to helping Marble Falls schools be the best they can be. Serving on the Board is my way of saying thanks for all that MFISD has done for me and my family.”
