The Marble Falls Education Foundation proudly announces Bessie Jackson as the recipient of the 2024 Excellence in Education Award. This prestigious award honors individuals who go above and beyond to enrich the lives of students and their community.
Bessie Jackson has been a cornerstone of the community since 1980, when she moved to the area with her husband, Henry, and their four children. Influenced by the values of her father, Rev. James Randon, she has dedicated her life to service and faith.
As an active member and administrator at St. Frederick Baptist Church, Bessie has grown the Mission Outreach program to serve meals to over 250 people each week, providing both nourishment and emotional support. Her commitment extends beyond church activities, deeply impacting the broader Marble Falls community.
In the realm of education, Bessie served as a teacher’s aide at Marble Falls High School, where she worked to address disparities affecting students from lower socio-economic backgrounds. This led her to serve six years on the Marble Falls ISD Board of Trustees, advocating for equitable treatment and opportunities for all students.
Bessie’s influence is also seen through her roles on the Granite Shoals City Council and the T.Q. Brown Community Center, now part of the Texas Housing Foundation. She has been instrumental in initiatives like “Elves for the Elderly” and summer fan drives for those in need.
A recent highlight of Bessie’s work is her leadership in establishing an African American museum at St. Frederick Baptist Church. This is a vital resource for preserving and teaching Black history, ensuring these stories continue to inspire future generations.
Bessie's philosophy that “the more we love and do for others, the more we get back” is evident in all her efforts. The Marble Falls Education Foundation is proud to honor Bessie Jackson for her lifelong commitment to service, education, and community.
