Vocalists from the Marble Falls High School Choir Program competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region Solo Contest at Stony Pointe High School in Round Rock last Friday, February 19th.
“We had 50 soloists compete,” said High School Choir Director, Bryce Gage. “43 received a Superior rating of 1. 23 of those soloists qualified for State Competition!”
The State bound students will compete on Memorial Day in May at the University of Texas in Austin. The extra work, practice, and time put in outside of normal school rehearsals by the student performers helped impact the superior results. Gage reports that all of the MFHS competing soloists study privately with one of program’s voice teachers: Sarah Spillman, Susan Ohlrich and Deborah Vanicek.

“Our kids performed at such a high level, they represented Marble Falls ISD extremely well,” said Gage. “The UIL Solo Contest is a stressful competition. The students walk in for a judge they've never seen before and since its UIL anyone can be in the room. I am very proud of how they performed!”
