Novice Debate Team Scores Hardware
Debate Team Medals at First Tournament

The new Professional Communications and Debate Teacher, Brittany Chrisman, was excited to see how her novice Mustang Speech and Debate Team would perform in their first Tournament Saturday in Burnet.  The Tournament, named the “Tournament that Teaches”, is designed to give competitors a practice competition to prepare them for upcoming University Interscholastic League events.

“Our novice Mustang Speech and Debaters did an awesome job at their first tournament,” exclaimed Chrisman.  “This was the first tournament of the season; and the first tournament for all eight of the Mustang novice competitors.”

The Mustang Speech and Debate competitors earned hardware during their first effort as a team:

  • Daniela Luevano, freshman, and Haley Brown, senior, made a strong showing in Poetry, both taking bronze medals in their flights.
  • Abigail Collard, freshman, took the bronze in Prose.
  • The Cross Examination Debate team of freshmen Seth O’Connor and Carter Schwope placed second in their flight.
  • CX Debaters Virginia Baskin, freshman, and Payton Clough, sophomore earned the gold for their flight.
  • Kayrizma Perkins, sophomore, represented the Mustangs in Extemporaneous Speaking.

The team’s next competition is December 5th in Bandera, Texas.
