The MFHS UIL Academics and Speech and Debate Teams had a busy January, competing in two invitational meets.  27 Mustangs headed to Burnet for the Bulldog UIL Invitational on Saturday, January 16th. 

The Academics team consisted of Jackson Cox, Georgia Eddy, Holden Fox, Britainy Fuss, Aaron Grubbs, Mark Grubbs, Crisologo Hall, Lauren Hatch, Amber Holley, Cody Jukes, Avery Marshall, LIbby McAplin, Paxton Oberle, Madison Williams, Benjamin Goad. The Current Events Team, consisting of Oberle, Williams, Cox, Marshall, and Baskin placed 2nd. Oberle placed 6th individually in Current Events.

Corey Bogue, Abigail Collard, and Adonnis Alexander performed Prose Interpretation. Bogue advanced to the finals, and placed 6th overall. Haley Brown was the lone Mustang competitor in Poetry Interpretation.  Novice CX Debate teams included Virginia Basking/Carter Schwope, Summer Thornton/Jessica Giattina and Zack Moyambo/Joshua Dupree. Kristina Macias competed in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

The Mustangs also competed in the Round Rock High School UIL Invitational on January 30th. 20 Mustangs represented the purple and gold.

Extemporaneous Speaking Team

Kayrizma Perkins, Mia Ferguson, and Ashley Macharg competed in persuasive extemporaneous speaking. Ferguson advanced to the semi-finals. Daniela Luevano and Haley Brown competed in poetry interpretation. Abigail Collard and Georgia Eddy competed in prose interpretation. Collard qualified for semi-finals. Garrett Jett and Zack Moyambo competed in Lincoln Douglas debate. The cross examination debate team of McKenzey Fox/Siler O’Connor rounded out the speech and debate squad. The pair won two of their four rounds.  The Academic Team consisted of Benjamin Goad, Aaron Grubbs, Crisologo Hall, Mark Grubbs, Amber Holley, Britainy Fuss, Madison Williams, and Lauren Hatch.  Fuss placed 2nd in Ready Writing.

Congratulations to all of our MFHS UIL Academic Team members on an outstanding showing! The Mustang’s next competition will be February 9th at the District CX Debate Tournament hosted by Georgetown East View.
