Marble Falls High School One Act Play Theatre students beat Austin High, the team that topped Marble Falls in the qualifying Bi-District competition, to win first place in the University Interscholastic League Area One Act Play contest, Saturday, April 1st, at Claudia Taylor High School in San Antonio. The Area victory qualifies MFHS to move on to the Regional contest this Friday, April 7th, at Southwest High School in San Antonio. Schools who finish in the top two at the Regional contest Friday qualify for the State One Act Play Contest.
“Not only did we place first in the overall contest, the judges awarded us a rare acting award,” said Theatre Director, Jon Clark. “Typically, acting awards go to individuals, but occasionally judges will recognize a group of actors for their ensemble work. Last night the judges awarded all six of our Alices with an Honorable Mention ensemble award.”
Individual Awards for the Area Competition:
All Star Technician - Taylor Wimbish
Honorable Mention All-Star Cast - Sydney Kelley
Honorable Mention All-Star Cast Ensemble Award - Gigi Goff, Rachel Coursey, Emily Gunlock, Katie Mintz, Madisyn Caraway, and Christine Ashbaugh
All-Star Cast - Ryan Counts
All-Star Cast - Austin Parker
The Regional Contest runs from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. Marble Falls is scheduled to perform at 4:00 p.m., but parents and fans should arrive early since latecomers are seated only during a brief pause between shows. Admission is $12 per person at the door.
