It’s amazing to see the extent that teachers and Principals will go to motivate their students to learn and participate in activities that benefit their community! Highland Lakes Elementary students raised $6,550 in a Pennies for Patients campaign, sponsored by the HLE Student Council this month to help find a cure for kids with blood cancer.
“During the first week of the campaign, HLE students raised $1,759.07,” said HLE Teacher Coach, D’Ann Ross. “To motivate the students to blow out their goal, Coach Parsons made good on a promise to kiss a live pig! During the last week, Ms. Harkins and Ms. Lashbrook took pies in the face during the morning assembly after their students beat their fundraising goal by raising $2,828.70. Then to top it off, Principal Bethany Birdwell, offered to let the Safety Patrol tape her up on a wall if HLE students beat a new goal of raising $3,500.”
Following their fundraising efforts, a donation of $35 from the kids at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marble Falls, and an anonymous donation of $2,500, HLE ended up with a fundraising total of $6,550! The funds will benefit LLS, an organization that focuses on finding a cure for children with blood cancer.
“The kids have been excited that we had to add to our goal chart (right) to track all of the extra funds raised to help find a cure for cancer during our campus campaign,” exclaimed Ross.
