The Mustang Band traveled to the Texas Music Educators Association Region 29 All-Region Auditions at John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio last Friday (December 2nd). MFHS sent 55 hopeful performers ready to compete against more than 130 students for only a few spots in the Region Band. Ten of the MFHS students earned spots in the All-Region Band; and 9 more students are alternates for the Band. The students will be performing at the Region Band Concert at 6 p.m., January 28th, at Samuel B. Champion High School in Boerne, Texas.
All-Region Band Members:
Back row from left to right: Sydney Kelley, Remi MacHarg, Alyssa Stutzman, Kyle Lawson, Austin Green. Front: Tambrey Gardner, Rebecca Faehnle, Edith Frank, Jalashawn Ford.
The auditions last Friday also qualified performers to advance to the Area Auditions January 7th at the University of Texas, Austin. Three Mustang Band Students advanced to the Area Audition by finishing in the top few spots for their instruments: Rebecca Faehnle (1st Chair Trumpet), Sydney Kelley (1st Chair Oboe), and Tambrey Gardner (3rd Chair Flute).
“The students trying out for the All-Region Band were given the music for the audition August 1st,” said Assistant Band Director, Brandon Sinde. “They had until December 2nd to prepare. Mr. Behrens and I are very proud of the hard work and dedication they put into this very demanding process. For most of the students, this was the first time they had ever competed in an All-Region tryout.”
