MFHS Cheerleading in Inaugural UIL Competition
MFHS Cheerleaders on stage at UT-Arlington

For the first time, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) offered a State competition for cheerleaders.  MFHS competed in the event at UT-Arlington Friday, January 15th.

“The competition was very tight, as there was less than a point differentiation between 15th and 25th place,” said MFHS Cheerleading Coach, Lauren Berkman.  “I am pleased that in the Inaugural year, our Team finished 23rd out of 77 teams in the 5A Division.”

Cheer teams were required to prepare and perform three separate routines to compete in the following divisions:

  • Band Dance
  • Fight Song
  • Crowd Leading

“Overall, our fight song routine placed 14th in the State,” said Berkman.  “Our competitors were very happy with the strong start!”
