Melissa Fletcher, Spicewood’s GT and Challenge Lab Teacher last year, and now its Instructional Technology Specialist, celebrated after receiving the news that she had been awarded the 2015 Donald McDonald Excellence in Teaching Award through Texas Tech University. Fletcher will receive a $1,500 cash stipend, a plaque, and her name engraved in the Donald McDonald Excellence in Teaching Award plaque which permanently hangs in the Texas Tech University College of Education.
Fletcher was honored last week at the Spicewood campus by MFISD’s Superintendent Chris Allen, Director of Elementary Curriculum, Leslie Baty, and School Board Trustee and Texas Tech’s Coordinator for the College of Education at the Division of Off-Campus Sites, Dr. Kelly Fox. She was also honored by the TTU Dean of the college of Education, Dr. Scott Ridley, during the August Faculty meeting via video conferencing at the TTU Hill Country campus in Marble Falls.
“Melissa was the first staff member at our school to come to mind for this award because she not only has been heavily involved in helping our student teachers over the last two years, but she herself is a current Texas Tech student in your graduate program, as she’s pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership,” said Baty, who nominated Fletcher for the award. “Melissa has also been able to assist our Tech Teach students. Through intentional collaboration, they have been able to dig more into their curriculum, design lessons to promote higher level thinking, create quality assessments, and set high expectations. I am confident our Tech Teach students will find much success in their future teaching endeavors because Melissa Fletcher has poured into their experience!
